NO JUNK IN THIS TRUNK: This week I got sporty. The nations favourite cricketer, Michael Clarke, has been working hard with Louis Vuitton. Designing his own cricketers trunk with the artisans in Paris, making a few personal touches and filling it with signed gear- the trunk will be sold by Christies- with all proceeds being donated to the Sydney Children’s Hospital. Who does not love Clarkie!?! If you are keen on owning this one of a kind- try the George St store!

GQ MEN OF THE YEAR

Last night saw the 2011 GQ Men of the Year Awards at Sydney Opera House- where Joel Edgerton was announced Man of the Year, Hugh Sheridan taking out the Man of Style. Chivas cocktails were readily flowing, which didn’t help this morning. Highlight: hanging out with a pack of models dressed by David Jones in the David Jones Styling Suit before the event kicked off…

THE SMARTS WITH TOM WATERHOUSE

Pardon the pun but backing Gai’s Best with my online betting agency, tomwaterhouse.com, will make your weekend more joyous than it would be otherwise.

For the uninitiated, Gai’s Best is my great offer that revolves around my mum’s most fancied runner. This weekend that runner is More Joyous, winner of 14 of her 18 starts and favourite for Saturday’s Doncaster Mile at Randwick.

Log into your tomwaterhouse.com account and back More Joyous safe in the knowledge that I will refund all losing win single bets placed on the Doncaster Mile market leader – up to a maximum of $50 per client – if she does not win.

Gai’s Best is yet to taste defeat. Last weekend, Needs Further (Best Tote odds of 2.80) followed in the hoofsteps of Pureness (Best Tote odds of 2.50) and More Joyous (Best Tote odds of 1.30), which means tomwaterhouse.com clients who have had $50 bets on each of the three Gai’s Best runners so far have won $180 without risking a cent.

Watch the video version of The Smarts at my blog to hear my thoughts on not only the Doncaster Mile but also the Australian Oaks and The Galaxy, plus find out my latest Lay of the Day. Only two of my lays in 2011 have won so make sure you know which Randwick favourite I am betting against on Saturday before placing your own wagers.

All the best,

Tom Waterhouse

THE SMARTS WITH TOM WATERHOUSE

This is not an April Fools’ Day hoax. I am allowing punters to have a risk-free $50 bet on my mum’s favourite runner this weekend at my betting website, tomwaterhouse.com.

My special offer revolves around Gai’s Best. All you have to do is watch the video version of The Smarts, which you can access from my blog, to find out the name of the horse that is Gai’s Best and then log into your tomwaterhouse.com account to place a bet on it safe in the knowledge that I will refund all losing win single bets placed on it – up a maximum of $50 per client – if it does not triumph.

Gai’s Best got off to a winning start last weekend when Pureness took out Saturday’s fifth race at Rosehill at tomwaterhouse.com Best Tote odds of 2.50. If you missed out last time, make sure you get on this time round.

It is Golden Slipper Day at Rosehill on Saturday, with the world’s richest race for two-year-old thoroughbreds being the main event on a terrific card. I preview three of the five Group One contests – the BMW, the George Ryder Stakes and the Golden Slipper itself – in the video version of The Smarts.

All the best,

Tom Waterhouse

THE SMARTS WITH TOM WATERHOUSE 04.03.11

Sydney’s Autumn Racing Carnival starts at Warwick Farm on Saturday and, to spice up the best time of the year for thoroughbred racing in the harbour city, I am taking bets on which trainer will win the most Group One races.

Autumn is when the Tulloch Lodge stable of my mum, Gai, fires up so I have installed her as the 2.75 favourite, with Peter Moody (3.00), Peter Snowden (4.50), Chris Waller (7.00) and any other trainer (11.00) rounding out the field.

Mum will be hard pushed to equal or better her 2003 feat of eight Group One winners during Sydney’s Autumn Racing Carnival but her team, headed by More Joyous, has what it takes to fend off the interstate and intrastate challengers.

There are two Group One races on Saturday – the Chipping Norton Stakes at Warwick Farm and the Australian Guineas at Flemington in Melbourne – and you can get my thoughts on both of those races by watching the video version of The Smarts, which you can do at my frequently updated blog.

If you love footy tipping then you are going to love my new tipping comps website. The first prize for my free-to-enter AFL tipping comp is a seven-night trip to the Grand Final in Melbourne and there is an equivalent prize on offer to the winner of my free-to-enter NRL tipping comp.

All the best,

Tom Waterhouse
