JASON DUNDAS, the newly appointed menswear ambassador at David Jones, is a babe. With his official duties kicking off as the new season starts- my decision to shoot Jason for an interview was a no brainer!

Although new to the David Jones roster, he is no freshman. Currently residing in NYC while hosting Vh1 America’s ‘Big Morning Buzz Live’ – Jason landed his first gig on MTV Australia at 21.

On a side note, his GQ Man of the Year and a CLEO Bachelor Award had nothing to do with his good looks and year round tan- it’s all about soul!?!

After our shoot I sat down with Jason to ask a few questions about his new role, style mishaps, icons and NYC…

Firstly, what are you currently reading and what are your listening to?

Listening to ‘Channel Orange’ by Frank Ocean, reading The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell!!

How has your style evolved from when your first started in TV? Any regrets!?

I was a 21 year old surfer living on the northern beaches of Sydney when my TV career started on MTV. I remember hosting TRL with black nail polish on my toe-nails, rubber thongs, and jeans, three sizes two big, that hung off my hips down to my knees. Over time, I learnt that fashion on TV needs to remain clean and simple. Solid colors and basics always work best, and never where white on TV – it burns out. I don’t regret what I wore back when I first started on TV; at the time I thought I looked pretty damn cool. Now on my show in NY I try to stick to almost a uniform, button downshirt (lightblue or navy) with a simple tie and tiepin, rolled up to the elbows. At 30, this feels comfortable for me right now, but I welcome the change as I mature!

Which labels from home do you miss the most when in NYC?

Bassike, Calibre, Jac & Jack, Jack London, Ksubi, Three Over One and Zanerobe

What are you looking to add to your wardrobe this summer?

Lots of colour and prints. Neon and pastels. A lightweight knit is a must, and a classic tailored jacket from Calibre or Zegna.

How do you feel men’s style in New York differs from Sydney?

One of the unique qualties that defines New York City, is it’s melting pot of all different subcultures in fashion. I ride the subway every day to my studios in Times Square, which gives me a front-row-seat look at the diverse style New Yorkers embrace. While I notice a lot of NY guys wearing similar trends to that of Sydney guys, the fashionable men of NY seem to wear their threads with more attention to detail. What really blows me away about mens fashion in NY are the trend setters. I see guys everyday pushing their individual trends, from the way they wear their clothes, to color blocking. As a whole, the NY man compared to the Sydney man simply buys more clothes more often!

What makes you a good ambassador for David Jones men’s fashion?

I have always taken incredible pride in my appearance and have always been interested in fashion. My passion for great design and style I feel makes me the perfect fit for this role!

What attracts you to the select of fashion at David Jones?

In a nut shell, David Jones houses all of my favourite brands, both Australian and International, which means I don’t have to go anywhere else.

Who are your style icons… What do you like about their style?

I get most of my fashion influence from street photogrpahy blogs, but I really like the style of David Beckham, Kanye West and Brad Pitt. David Beckham does the perfect suit, Mr. West brings in creativity and Brad Pitt dress like a gentlemen.

What is your most prized possession?

My navy blue blazer – I wear it at least three times a week.

If given a ticket to anywhere in the world… where would you go?

Tel Aviv, Israel
